Fusion 2008: Blue Planet

Weston Family Innovation Centre, Ontario Science Centre

Call for Project Submissions

Fashions constantly evolve. The economy, technology and morality are in state of flux. The very climate of Earth itself is changing. But what about the force behind all these changes – human beings? Can we change? As individuals? Communities? Nations?

What would a change in humanity look like?

Fusion 2008 seeks to inspire, excite, inform, challenge and connect young artists, designers, inventors and scientists through collaborative or interdisciplinary displays and experiences created by students for students. It provides the opportunity to publicly showcase innovative new projects that in some way blur traditional boundaries between art, science, design and technology.

Eligible entrants include high school, undergraduate and postgraduate individuals or groups in Canada and abroad - as well as young people not currently enrolled in educational institutions.

Categories:

A - Under 18 years old and/or are at the Secondary Ed. level;

B - Over 18 years old and/or are at the Postsecondary Ed. level.

Teams with members both under and over age 18 are free to choose competition category.

Authors of best projects will receive a Fusion 2007 Honorarium:

One CAD $ 600.00 in category A and

One CAD $ 2 000.00 in category B

Eligible Projects

If you are exploring the motivations and impediments, the ways and means, and what might result if people can change, express your ideas and issues through scientific, technological or artistic explorations using multimedia, gaming, music, sculpture, painting, theatre, performance art, fashion, A/V, photography, design, robotics, bioengineering, site specific installations or any other creative media. All types of individual or team efforts are welcome, ranging from academic projects to street-wise works, rough and raw prototypes and proofs of concept.

Style of presentation of your project is up to you, it can range from a poster or 5 minute PowerPoint presentation describing your project, to an intricate display, performance or installation of the project, as complex as you can manage to set up on your own, relying on your own resources, within limitations of the presentation facilities offered.

Up to 30 Individual or Group Projects will be presented in the Science Centre's Weston Family Innovation Centre during the Fusion festival. Pre-screening criteria include diversity, high professional and academic standards, relevant experiences for festival visitors and the opportunity to showcase a wide range of issues. Preference will be given to projects that can be displayed or performed at the Ontario Science Centre's Weston Family Innovation Centre. All finalists will receive a Certificate of Recognition, food voucher and a transportation grant of CAD $50 per project*.
