A Question of Truth

Here are a few of the exciting exhibits featured in A Question of Truth: Race, Bias and Science...

The Calendar in the Sky Acupuncture: Health=Balance
For thousands of years, cultures around the world have marked time by charting the Sun, Moon, planets and stars. Find a specific date - like your birthday - and discover the significance of that day in seven other cultural calendars. According to traditional Chinese medicine, your body's energy flows along a network of pathways and meridians. When you press an acupuncture point on this life-size model, the meridians light up.
Skin Colour: What's the Difference? Who's Talking?
Out of the 100,000 or so genes that make up the human genetic code, only a tiny fraction influence skin colour. The challenge is to find those different coloured "genes" in a container of more than 100,000 red beads. Do you jump to conclusions when you hear a voice or see a face? Here's a chance to find out. Listen to the stories of several people, then try to match the voice to the face.
Confinement Box Two Views - Orrery
Step inside a box equal in size to the spaces that confined Africans on slave ships or prisoners on trains bound for Nazi concentration camps. Biased ideas about who is inferior help create spaces like this. How does it make you feel? Modern Western science puts the Sun at the centre of the solar system. But other points of view are not necessarily wrong or primitive. Examine the Earth-centred solar system models of other cultures.
