The Children's Museum - Ministry of Natural Heritage

Muscat, Oman (1990 – 2006)

The Ontario Science Centre has had an ongoing relationship with the Sultanate of Oman since 1990. Our relationship began with the design, fabrication and installation of 45 exhibits and two demonstrations for a 10,000 square-foot building and established the first science museum in Oman. Upon completion on November 17, 1990 (the 20th National Day celebration in Oman) His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bestowed the gift of the Oman Children’s Museum on the children of the Sultanate.

The scope of our work with the Oman Children’s Museum also included host training as well as the provision of a 3 month staff presence to facilitate operational training during the opening transition period. As one of our first projects in the Middle East, we are very appreciative of the opportunity we were given in Oman in 1990 and learned a lot from our experience there.

In 2006, we were thrilled to hear that the exhibits we had originally installed sixteen years earlier had stood the test of time. In that same year, the Ontario Science Centre had the pleasure of being appointed once again by the Sultanate of Oman - whose aim was to renovate the Oman Children’s Museum by augmenting the Museum with additional interactive exhibits - to produce and install 10 additional exhibits covering a wide range of science disciplines including: chemistry, physics, biology and physiology.
