W5 at Odyssey

Belfast, Northern Ireland (2000)

W5 was the first project of its kind in Northern Ireland. An exciting and inspirational interactive Centre that was part of Odyssey, Northern Ireland's Landmark Millennium Project at the Abercorn Basin in Belfast.

The Ontario Science Centre was contracted to conceptualize, design and fabricate two key exhibition spaces, the 6,000 sq ft children's exhibition space (START) and the 4,000 sq ft iconic entrance gallery (WOW!).

Significant research into the Key Stage school curriculum of Northern Ireland enabled the exhibits to provide links between the formal education system and W5. It also allowed the design team to create unique, interactive and educational exhibits for visitors of all ages.

Using these designs, our fabrication team created two exhibition halls unique in their theme, style, materials and graphic approach. Installation of all 10,000 sq ft of new exhibits was carried out by Ontario Science Centre staff in December 2000. W5 opened to the public in March 2001.
