PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

Format: Capacity: Duration: Times: Price: Hands-On Workshop 10-50 teachers at a time 90 minutes 10:15-11:45, 12:15-1:45, 2:15-3:45 $20 per teacher   Enhance Your Knowledge Expand your understanding of science concepts and make real-world connections to take back to your class. These workshops provide teachers with an opportunity to ask questions, discuss specific needs and share ideas and thoughts with fellow teachers. All Professional Development (PD) workshops reflect the revised Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum.

Grades ECE - 3

Energy
Discover different forms of energy and how energy can be changed from one form to another. Use simple materials to apply various forms of energy to move a toy car.

Simple Machines
Explore how levers and inclined planes make things easier to move. Use simple materials to create compelling chain reactions.

Structures
Explore how materials, shapes and internal forces are used to make structures strong and stable. Use an arch model to test different load distributions.

Grades 4 - 8

Electricity
Explore key concepts of static and current electricity, electric circuits and energy conversion. Build a parallel circuit to solve a problem and test how current flows within an electric circuit.

Flight
Explore how flying objects use the properties of air to create drag, lift, weight and thrust. Build a wind tunnel to investigate the four forces of flight and test how the shape and angle of a wing influence lift.

Pulleys & Gears
Build a system of pulleys and a gear train to understand key concepts of how pulleys and gears function by changing direction, force and speed of motion.

Space
Explore the motions of the Moon that result in its changing position, phases and eclipses in our CA Planetarium. Build models to understand and explain the moon's phases and position.

How do I book?

For groups of 10 to 50 educators, our PD workshops are available Monday to Friday at 10:15 am, 12:15 pm and 2:15 pm at $20 per teacher.
