A Real Human Cannonball Family

The Smith family features three different Human Cannonball acts:

  • David Smith Sr., who is also credited with designing the "Little Giant", a cannon small enough to fit through the doors of a high school gymnasium
  • David Smith Jr. (picture at right) who performs under the title of "The Bullet"
  • Rebecca Smith, Jennifer Smith and Kimberly Smith, a sister/daughter team of cannonball artists

David Smith Jr. - who opened CIRCUS! at the Ontario Science Centre with a bang - belongs to a family of Human Cannonball artists. His father, David Smith Sr., broke the distance record set in 1940 by the famous Zacchini family. Smith Sr. was shot 54.97 m (180 ft., 4 in.) at a performance in Manville, New Jersey in 1995.

In 1998, David Smith Sr. and Jr. performed in a "Duelling Cannons" event for the Guinness Book of World Records. Smith Sr. bested his own earlier record with a shot of 56.64 m (185 ft., 10 in.), while his son successfully completed a shot of 55.19 m (181 ft., 1 in.).
