What words do you actually hear while listening for at least a full minute? Can you hear words that aren't there? While each repetition of the word tress (as in "a tress of hair") is exactly the same, you may experience a strange illusion. This phenomenon is called the verbal transformation effect. Psychologists use it study how we process and understand what we hear. They've discovered different people may hear different things when exposed to the same recording. |
