The Jelly Bean Challenge

You'll need:

• jelly bean
• you!

1. Plug your nose and pop a jelly bean in your mouth.
2. Chew 5 times while holding your nose. What do you taste?
3. Unplug your nose and keep chewing. What flavour do you experience?

Taste and flavour are different. While you can taste only 4 things – sweet, salty, sour, bitter – you can identify thousands of flavours. This is because your nose adds smell to taste to create flavour.
