Accessibility and Community Access

Our site is fully accessible and we offer programs to assist with admission costs.

Accessibility

We’re proud that the Ontario Science Centre is barrier-free. We offer extra-wide parking, free wheelchairs and strollers, wheelchair seating in the Shoppers Drug Mart® OMNIMAX® Theatre and Imperial Oil Auditorium, barrier-free elevators, a washroom for special needs persons and safe areas of refuge in case of emergency.

Our Access Guide for Visually Impaired Persons identifies our exhibits and programs that will most appeal to people who are blind or visually impaired. It lists exhibits that can be experienced through touch, taste, hearing and smell. It also gives wayfinding directions to locate these. There are two editions of the Access Guide

Community Access

The Ontario Science Centre is committed to making science and technology accessible to all members of the community. Under a special part of our Community Access program, admission to the Science Centre is only $2.00 for adults and free for children (age 4-12), youths (age 13-17), and seniors (age 65+). Every year many community organizations serving needy families and individuals bring their clients to the Centre to enjoy exciting science exhibits and demonstrations under this special program.

To take advantage of this part of our program, arrangements must be made in advance by any organization that serves low-income clients. Clients can come for group outings or coupons can be distributed to allow them to come on their own.

If you represent an organization that serves low-income clients, contact us for more information or to apply with a brief email or fax.

Another part of the program is designed for special needs clients in a registered program of treatment. Organizations conducting these programs may pre-arrange free admission for their special needs clients and escorts.

Adopt-a-Class and Adopt-a-School

The Ontario Science Centre will offer a number of youth-oriented Community Access programs in 2010/2011 including Adopt-a-Class and Adopt-a-School.

Adopt-a-Class

Through this program, classes from schools in the Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board that are located in Toronto's most underserved neighbourhoods will be able to visit the Ontario Science Centre and participate in a curriculum-related program at no cost, with many classes also receiving transportation thanks to Founding Partner, Procter & Gamble, Lead Supporter, HSBC Bank Canada, Sponsor, Amgen Canada, and other generous individuals, foundations and corporate supporters.

Adopt-a-School

With the support of companies like Bayer Inc., many classes or even whole schools from the Toronto District School Board, are able to visit the Ontario Science Centre and participate in a curriculum-related program at no cost, transportation included.
