StarWatch is a Citizen Science experiment which investigates the effect of Earth Hour on night sky darkness.

The question:

Are more stars visible during Earth Hour?

The experiment :

Record the number of stars you see in the Little Dipper during Earth Hour and compare this with the number of stars visible after Earth Hour.

When:

9:15 p.m. & 9:45 p.m., Saturday, March 26th.

Durring the 2003 Blackout
Light Pollution

August, 2003, during and after a blackout which spanned the eastern seaboard.

Where:

Your backyard, a park, the sidewalk. Anywhere with a view of the night sky!

Why:

The change in night sky brightness indicates the amount of energy wasted through light pollution. Comparing this year's results with previous results tell us if more lights were turned out.
Your data makes a difference! Here’s how to participate.
