PD Workshop: Arduino Coding in the Classroom for Beginners

Think Arduino is a brand of coffee maker? Don’t know a breadboard from a keyboard? Join us for this fun, hands-on introduction to the world of code and electronics for teachers. Using our Arduino Uno microcontrollers, sensors, breadboards and other related equipment, you’ll discover how code can control physical components. The workshop will also include circuit-building and other methods for teaching electricity and integrating 21st-century learning skills into the classroom. Upon completion, you’ll receive a package including curriculum connections and potential classroom activities.

• Capacity is limited and booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Full payment is required at the time of booking to reserve your space in the workshop.
• Cancellations received by 4 p.m., November 23, 2018 are refundable, less a $15 administrative fee.
• 
No refunds will be given for cancellations after November 23, 2018.
• Refunds due to medical reasons may be considered if a written request is received and is accompanied by a doctor's note.
• Arduino kits will be available for purchase by workshop participants.
• Valid Ontario College of Teachers card required at check-in.


Teacher Orientations: Discover the Science Centre

Join us for a dynamic medley of the Science Centre's fun and interactive curriculum-connected science and technology programs.

Our "Discover the Science Centre" orientations are offered free of charge to pre-booked groups of 100-400 teachers or teacher candidates, and highlight our programs for students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Energetic and experienced Educators will illustrate how the Science Centre's innovative programs not only complement your classroom teaching, but also apply amazing resources and technology that will elicit wonder and excitement in your students.

Teacher Orientations: Challenger Learning Centre - Space Mission

Teachers booking a Space Mission receive a free mission resource package and the opportunity to attend a free 3-hour Teacher Orientation in the Challenger Learning Centre at the Ontario Science Centre. The orientation is designed to help teachers prepare their students to get the maximum value educationally and experientially from their Space Mission and is highly recommended. It will introduce teachers to pre-visit classroom activities from the resource package and will allow teachers to sample a Space Mission before their class visit.
