10 a.m.-3 p.m. (Solar Observing, Solar Science, Northern Lights Chalk Art)

We’re headed to where Ontario’s coniferous and deciduous forests meet for a chance to observe our Sun and other stars in the beautiful setting of Algonquin Park.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 26*, we’ll be looking up, using telescopes and the naked eye, to spot the Moon, Saturn and, if we’re lucky, the northern lights.

Stop by during the day on Saturday (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) to see the Sun through a telescope* and learn more about the northern lights, which are expected to be at a peak this fall. Explore the science behind the stunning phenomena by making your own aurora art, learning how excited gases emit colourful light and more.

*Observations are weather permitting. Rain date for evening observing: Saturday, September 27.
