Crochet Coral Reef, by Margaret and Christine Wertheim, is an international initiative inspired by art, science and environmental activism. A travelling art exhibition, Crochet Coral Reef has been presented around the world. It was on display at the Science Centre throughout most of 2021.
Margaret and Christine also founded and co-direct the Institute for Figuring, a non-profit organization that hosts the continuing evolution of the Crochet Coral Reef project.
Since the project began in 2005, more than 10,000 people from around the world have crocheted more than 40 separate Satellite Reefs, which now includes the Ontario Satellite Reef. This province-wide community art project is displayed at the Science Centre on Level 2. Check out the colourful crocheted creations on your next visit.
