Ontario Science Centre/STEAMLabs Maker Club

Maker

The Ontario Science Centre is partnering with STEAMLabs for Maker Club: a series of weekend workshops for kids and youth aged 6-18 this winter. Participants will explore science, technology, engineering, art and math in these exciting and intensive workshops. Held in the unique setting of the Science Centre, participants are sure to be inspired to experience what it means to be a Maker, from idea to finished product.

Classes begin in January 2019 and will be held Saturdays and Sundays.

Calling all junior inventors! This exciting workshop focuses on individual and group exploration of creative and design thinking through inquiry, play, skill building, and – most of all - fun! Participants will work with maker-educators from STEAMLabs and the Ontario Science Centre in the dynamic environment of the Science Centre’s exhibitions and classrooms. Through experimentation with a range of materials, tools, and technology they’ll explore, imagine, and bring their ideas to life.

If you can imagine it, you can make it! This workshop focuses on the fundamental skills of making and programming. By taking part in games, storytelling and making, participants will hone their skills to design a project. Using tools, craft materials and digital fabrication tools, including 3D printers and a laser cutter, the project will come to life – along with an understanding of concepts in engineering and computer programming.

Zero to Startup

For Ages 11-18 – Saturdays Jan 26 – May 4 12:30pm – 4:30pm (13 weeks)

Interested in developing your portfolio for specialist high school or college/university programs? ZerotoStartup is an intensive 13-week program where youth discover their personal strengths, develop entrepreneurial skills; work with real world tools and technologies, and practice working in fast-paced creative teams.

In teams, participants will ideate, design and prototype a product that attempts to solve real problems using the latest technologies. Teams will then present their product at an end of program showcase in the style of a pitch to potential investors.
