Cadillac Fairview and Ontario Science Centre partner to showcase extraordinary kinetic sculptures this holiday season
TORONTO (November 28, 2023) – Adding more wonder and whimsy to the holiday season, Cadillac Fairview has partnered with the Ontario Science Centre to bring a much-loved tradition to downtown Toronto. Passersby will discover inventor Rowland Emett's whimsical Dream Machines–intricate kinetic sculptures created with both rare and everyday materials used in unusual ways–showcased in the holiday display windows of CF Toronto Eaton Centre, along Yonge Street, just south of Dundas Street. The machines will come to life every half hour from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The eight sculptures are part of the world’s largest collection of Emett Machines owned by the Ontario Science Centre. Each winter, the Science Centre displays these fantastical machines as part of a holiday tradition – this year they will delight visitors at CF Toronto Eaton Centre.
Rowland Emett, a British cartoonist, is best known for designing and fabricating these machines. Featured in the classic film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, his moving sculptures turned ordinary objects such as doorknobs, colanders and badminton birdies into the extraordinary by making all the pieces interconnected.
