This collaborative and conversational webinar will delve into the theories and practices of play-based learning and teaching in Kindergarten. We’ll examine what play and play-based learning are. How can they be realized using child-directed and educator-led engagements as part of Kindergarten curriculum and pedagogy?
From there, we’ll talk about the role of the educator in play-based learning, focusing on assessing for learning and planning with intention as well as ways of sharing learning and learning opportunities with parents and families.
Throughout this webinar, we’ll share experiences and possibilities to infuse meaningful and enriching play-based learning into Kindergarten teaching.
Susan Jagger
Susan Jagger (she/her) is an Associate Professor in the School of Early Childhood Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her research interests include STEM and environmental education, learning gardens, community mapping, informal learning, experiential curriculum and pedagogies, and participatory research with children.
Jill Robbers

Jill Robbers has taught Kindergarten and Primary students in the Upper Grand District School Board for 13 years. She is passionate about creating environments where students feel engaged, supported and excited to learn. Jill focuses on helping students develop the confidence, independence and foundational skills needed for the transition to Grade 1. Jill believes that when students are given opportunities to explore and experiment, they develop a lasting love of learning.
