Work has officially begun on our future home at Ontario Place

We’ve officially broken ground on our future home on Toronto’s waterfront.

The new Ontario Science Centre will be a dynamic destination at Ontario Place, designed to spark curiosity and bring science to life for visitors of all ages.

From the moment visitors step into the awe-inspiring welcome lobby, the experience will invite families, tourists, teachers and students to touch, explore, experiment and imagine together. Visitors will discover world-class exhibitions, immersive galleries and dynamic digital experiences designed to spark wonder at every turn.

On track to open in 2029, the new Science Centre includes a state-of-the-art mainland building, revitalized Pod complex and an enhanced Cinesphere, offering more space for hands-on learning, immersive exhibits and unforgettable science-learning experiences.

Inspired by the meeting of the lake, land and sky, the building itself is designed to be an “embodiment of science,” according to Hariri Pontarini architect Doron Meinhard, with thoughtful features that invite exploration at every turn, including:

  • A constellation-inspired campus layout, using star-like patterns to connect the new building with the Pods and Cinesphere.

  • A working sundial built into the exterior, reimagining one of the oldest ways to track time.

  • Flowing, sail-like architecture that reflects the movement of wind and water along the waterfront.

  • Alternating textures and tones on the panels weave into one another, evoking movement, with cladding that dissolves into the surrounding landscape and Lake Ontario in a shimmering tapestry.
  • Solar panels on the roof that highlight how the building generates power.
  • Green roof and terraces that manage rainwater naturally.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our future home, where discovery and imagination come together, and where the next generation of scientists, thinkers and explorers will be inspired.
